Attendance is very important to your child's success. Please bring your child to school every day and on time. Excused absences are for illness, bereavement, and/or religious holidays. A note with the absence date and reason is required to turn in to the teacher/office within three days of the child returning to school. Please keep your child at home if he/she is sick. This is for the health and safety of the other children and staff.
TARDY
If your child is not in class, ready to learn by 7:55 am each morning, and is late, he/she will need to go through the main entrance and stop in at the front office for a tardy pass before coming to the classroom. Students who are repeatedly absent or tardy may/can be retained.

HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
There are several ways we can communicate to ensure your child's success:
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
PROGRESS REPORTS AND REPORT CARDS
You will receive your child’s progress report once every three weeks and a final report card once each semester. These reports will include grades for class work, tests, and participation based on the following scale:
Summative Assessments: 70% of grade
Formative Assessments: 30% of grade
90-100%=A 80-89%=B 70-79%=C 60-69%=D 59% and below =F
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Parent Volunteers are welcome any time. I would like to get my routines and rules set up in August and September. I will open time slots for volunteers once these routines have been established. Your presence in the class is very important to support the learning environment and success of the children. Volunteers can help read with the students, practice math facts, and help prepare activities. If there is something special you would like to share, please let me know. Parents who would like to volunteer must attend a school volunteer training with administration before entering the classroom. Volunteer training sessions are help approximately once a month. Also, any parent who volunteers 4 times per month or more, must be processed through the CCSD as an official volunteer which includes fingerprinting and a background check. If this applies to you, please speak with me and I can help you with the process.
BIRTHDAYS
Birthdays can be acknowledged in class if you would like. Please let me know a week before if you’d like to bring something to share with the class. Goodies other than food are preferred due to student allergies with the exception of popsicles. Children love items items like pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, yo-yo’s, bubbles, small bouncing balls, etc. If you do choose to send a special treat, it will be passed out at the end of the day from 2:05-2:11 pm.
HOLIDAYS
Holidays such as Halloween, Valentine's Day and others are acknowledged. If, for religious reasons, you’d prefer not to have your child participate, please let me know.
BATHROOM
We will take group bathroom breaks for the first month. Students may also go anytime they need without disrupting others, unless I’m teaching a lesson. Please dress them in comfortable and easy to fasten clothing.
BACKPACKS
Please write your child’s name on their backpack and room number. If something is lost, there is a Lost and Found near the main entrance of the school. If possible write your child’s name on anything and everything they can put on and take off, like jackets, hats, etc.
CELL PHONES
If your child has a cell phone and it is brought to school, it must remain in their backpack during school hours. Students who are using their cell phones during the school day will be sent to the office.
TOYS
Toys from home should not be brought to school. Our room is filled with wonderful materials; I don’t want any of your special items to get broken or misplaced.
EMERGENCY
For the safety of your child please keep information updated at all times, such as contact numbers, home address, and work information. You can update emergency contact information online through the Infinite Campus portal. Also, please make sure your child memorizes their phone numbers and address.
IMPORTANT SCHOOL PAPERS
Please go through your child’s backpack and RED folder every day. Read and complete all school papers, then turn it in the next day or as soon as possible.
FIRST DAY
The first day of school may be difficult for some of our children (and parents). Please know I will do everything I can to keep them happy and safe, but please try to prepare your child by talking to them about school and the routine you will have every day. Explain that you will bring them to school, leave them with their teacher and friends to listen and learn. Tell them they need to listen, respect and be kind to their teachers and friends. Then let them know you will be back to pick them up.
The best way to reach me is at [email protected] or on the REMIND app.

- All students who are not picked up within 5 minutes of the dismissal time will be sent to the front office and/or Safekey.
HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
There are several ways we can communicate to ensure your child's success:
- Home school RED folder--Check your child's backpack every day for important papers that stay at home and papers that need to be returned to school, including Reading/Behavior logs. You can also use the folder to send notes with your child as I may not always be available when you drop off your child to school.
- Email me at: [email protected]
- Set up an appointment with me at (702) 799-5700. Please leave a voicemail if I am not available when you call. I will return your call as soon as I am able (usually after school or on prep in the morning around 10 am).
- Sign up for REMIND-a text messaging system where I can text you important information daily and send last minute reminders. Please text me at 81010. In the message box put @jrb4force. When it is time to enter your name, please write your child's name and your name so I know easily who is sending the message. Or enter rmd.at/f8aa69bfc3 into your web browser and follow the prompts. Thanks!
- After school--For the safety of our children, if you would like to speak with me, please be patient and wait until I have dismissed all students. This way I can assure all students get home properly , and then I can give you my full attention.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
- Any supplies brought to school by your child, with the exception of his/her personal folders and notebooks, will be shared and used by all classmates. I encourage that special pencils and other special belongings be left at home. Please no markers, pens, pencil sharpeners, fidget toys, or pencil boxes/pouches. Due to the organization system I have set up in the classroom, pencil boxes and pouches are not needed.
- We can always use more general supplies as well. We usually run out of glue sticks, facial tissue, handwipes, whiteboard markers, copy paper, and pencils throughout the year. Please feel free to donate more to our classroom if you can. You can view the supply list for 1st grade at
